The GBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting at a Sandy Springs apartment complex on Friday afternoon in which a man was shot three times by police.

Abayomi Royalston, 26, who was brandishing a handgun, was wounded after a Sandy Springs police sergeant and one of two officers at the scene fired multiple shots at him, the GBI said.

He was transported to North Fulton Hospital, Channel 2 Action News reported. No police were injured.

The incident happened just before 5 p.m. at a complex in the 300 block of Winding River Drive. Police had responded to a 911 call concerning a domestic disturbance involving a mother and her son, GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang said.

The GBI will turn the case over to the district attorney once its investigation is completed, Lang said.
