The GBI is trying to figure out how an inmate died at the Douglas County Jail on Saturday.

A cellmate told jail staff the inmate suffered a “medical emergency,” GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said Monday.

He was taken to the hospital, where he died. The inmate has not been identified.

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday, Miles said.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment or provide additional details because the GBI is investigating.
