The funeral for former U.S. Rep. Michael Allen “Mac” Collins will be Sunday in Milner, Ga.

His funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Rock Springs Church, 219 Rock Springs Road, Milner. Visitation will be the two hours before the service at the church. Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson is handling arrangements.

Collins, who died Tuesday, is survived by his wife Julie, four adult children, 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, including his namesake, Denver Mac Collins.. He was 74.

Collins, a Republican, served on the Butts County Commission before his election to the Georgia State Senate, where he served four years. He was elected to Congress in 1992 to a middle Georgia district that included parts of the south Atlanta metro area, serving for 12 years. He ran for U.S. Senate in 2004, losing in the primary.

Gov. Nathan Deal  has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff Friday through Sunday at the State Capitol and in Butts County.
