Funeral planned for Cheeseburger, homeless man’s canine companion

April 3, 2015

Cheeseburger, the beloved canine companion of an Athens-area homeless man, will be memorialized Saturday.

According to the Athens Banner-Herald, Cheeseburger will be remembered at 2 p.m. Saturday at Athens’ Covenant Presbyterian Church. The 14-year-old canine — often seen walking Athens’ eastside with homeless owner Johnny Veazey — died of a tumor.

“We are really surprised to hear about the number of people going to (the memorial service),” friend Pauline Kilmer told the Banner-Herald. “It’s touching to see how close our community is.”
