A 23-year-old man accused of slashing his wife so many times she required 2,700 stitches was being returned to New York Thursday to face criminal charges.
Dartanyan Kingsberry, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was arrested in Locust Grove on Wednesday, hiding in a closet, said Henry County Chief Deputy Sheriff David Foster.
Kingsberry is accused of attacking his estranged wife with a box cutter on June 28, causing her extensive injuries, according to police. The 26-year-old victim survived the attack, but needed 700 stitches in her face and 2,000 on other parts of her body.
Kingsberry had eluded capture until Wednesday, when U.S. Marshals assisted Henry deputies with the arrest. Investigators declined to release information regarding what led them to a Locust Grove address, where Kinsgberry was taken into custody without incident.
Kingsberry waived extradition.
“He was released from our jail this morning and the detectives indicated they would take him back to NYC today,” said Henry spokesman Capt. Jack Oakman.
He will be charged with attempted murder, authorities said.
