He has a shorter haircut and may have taken a trip to the West Coast. But a Cobb County man is back in jail for allegedly shaking and throwing a crying baby, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
And this time, Ryne Dale Garoy, 30, is facing additional charges as a fugitive.
Garoy, of Marietta, was arrested in November 2012 after allegedly injuring the baby in his care, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.
“Said accused took the baby into the living room where he aggressively shook the victim to have the victim stop crying,” Garoy’s arrest warrant stated. “Said accused then took the victim into a bedroom and threw the victim down to the floor.”
Garoy was granted bond and released from the Cobb County jail, but failed to appear in court, Gavin Duffy with the U.S. Marshals Service said Monday. Investigators believe Garoy fled the state and possibly traveled to the West Coast, Duffy said.
But on Friday, investigators tracked Garoy down to the Greyhound bus station in downtown Atlanta, Duffy said. After hours of surveillance, Garoy was taken into custody without incident.
“Anyone who is willing to do harm to an innocent child will always receive our full attention” Chief Keith Booker, commander of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, said in an emailed statement. “In cases such as this, we devote as many resources as necessary and do not stop the investigation until the fugitive is safely taken into custody, no matter how long it takes.”
Garoy was booked into the Fulton County jail before being transferred to the Cobb jail, where he was being held without bond Monday night.
