Fourth of July celebrations across Georgia are washing away with the persistent rain.
The City of Acworth announced Wednesday morning that it will postpone its Fourth of July Concert and Fireworks because of “the forecasted weather conditions.”
“Paul Hand Band” and “Flashback” will perform on July 19 at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. followed by fireworks. Acworth Director of Parks James Albright told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he pushed the festivities back two weeks to give “people a few weeks to plan and adjust their schedules accordingly.”
“We felt like it worked out best in terms of everything,” he said. “It gave us time to get the bands rescheduled and the fireworks reset.”
Acworth wasn’t alone in its decision to reschedule Fourth of July events.
The City of Canton also announced Wednesday morning that it would reschedule its fireworks display. The city will announce the rescheduled date in the coming week.
Covington, Ellijay and Heard County have rescheduled their celebrations for Saturday, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Dahlonega has postponed its fireworks and most festivities leading up to the fireworks until Saturday, but still plans to hold the Firecracker 5k/10k and Fun Run as scheduled on Thursday.
Three cities postponed celebrations for a month or more, according to Channel 2.
The city of Helen plans to reschedule its fireworks for Aug. 17, the day before the city turns 100 years old, according to its website.
Lilburn has rescheduled Sparkle in the Park fireworks until Sept. 1 and Calhoun’s Star Spangled Celebration will be postponed until Sept. 7. Both events will fall on the week of Labor Day — Sept. 2 this year.
Kennesaw’s Salute to America fireworks were scheduled for Wednesday, but have been postponed to an undetermined date, Channel 2 reported.
Oxford’s parade had been cancelled entirely.
