Investigators believe a Forsyth County man was traveling too fast on his motorcycle, causing him to leave his lane and hit a car head-on, police said Monday.

Brandon Egli, 26, of Cumming, died at the hospital after the Sunday afternoon wreck on Hickory Hills Road, near Akins Way, according to Deputy Epifanio Rodriguez with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Egli was negotiating a turn on Hickory Hills too fast at the same time the driver of Chevrolet Impala was traveling in the opposite direction, Rodriguez said.

“The motorcycle was unable to maintain its lane, causing it to strike the Impala head-on, ejecting the driver of the motorcycle,” Rodriguez said in an emailed statement.

It was not known whether Egli was wearing a helmet, Rodriguez said. Neither the driver nor the passenger of the Impala were injured.

The fatal wreck was one of two wrecks involving motorcycles the Sheriff’s Office was called to Sunday, Rodriguez said.

In a second, unrelated crash, the driver of a motorcycle was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries following a wreck on S.R. 20 near Samples Road.
