A former Walmart employee was arrested after police said they crashed a car through the front doors of a Concord, North Carolina, store Friday morning, according to multiple news reports.

The incident happened at the store on Thunder Road near Concord Mills Mall and Derita Road, according to Concord Police.

The suspect is a former employee who had been fired within the last week or so, a spokesperson for Concord Police said.

Someone drove a car into the store about 6 a.m., WSOC-TV reported, citing police. When officers got to the Walmart, they went inside and confronted the driver, taking them into custody without incident.

Employees were evacuated from the building, and the store will remain closed while police investigate, according to WCNC in Charlotte.

Police have not identified the suspect or announced exact charges, according to WCNC.

Investigators aren’t sure how long the suspect drove through the store but said there was “extensive” damage.

“If you take a car through a Walmart, there’s going to be a lot of damage,” a police official told WSOC-TV. “Aisles aren’t wide enough [for a car], so there’s a lot of property damage.”

One worker told WCNC’s Richard DeVayne it “sounded like gunshots” when the car crashed through the store.

No injuries were reported by first responders, and police have not determined a motive for the crash.
