A Cherokee County woman admitted in court that she stole thousands of dollars from an elementary school PTA and a high school booster club.

Kimberly Ann Turman, 42, pleaded guilty Friday to two felony counts of theft by taking, a spokeswoman for the Cherokee County Superior Court said. Turman was sentenced to 10 years probation, must complete 100 hours of community service and was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and restitution, the court said. She was sentenced as a first offender.

Turman previously was treasurer of the Indian Knoll Elementary School PTA and the Sequoyah High School girls soccer booster club. According to investigators, Turman stole $12,448 from the PTA over a two-year period and $5,882 from the booster club.

She was arrested in April 2013 after an audit was conducted, a spokeswoman for the Cherokee County school system previously said.
