A former director of elections for Cherokee County was arrested over the weekend and charged with felony theft by taking, authorities said.

Janet Munda, 55, of Cumming, was booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center Saturday night, and was released on $9,000 bond later that evening, Cherokee sheriff’s Lt. Jay Baker said.

Baker said Munda is accused of using her county credit card for more than $700 in personal charges, including her home power bill, clothing and groceries. Her arrest followed a six month investigation, he said.

Munda was fired from her position as the county’s director of elections in July.
