Investigators hope surveillance footage released Thursday of an armed robbery inside an Atlanta bar will help identify the suspects.
Early Wednesday, two armed men robbed patrons and employees at Augustine's, located on Memorial Drive less than a mile from Grant Park. Police were called to Augustine's around 12:10 a.m. after five people were robbed, Officer Kim Jones said.
One patron said he was sitting at the bar when he saw a suspect “walk behind the bar and grab the bartender … by the arm and point a gun at her,” police said.
While that suspect was taking money from the register, another demanded items from customers, witnesses told police. That suspect had a gun tucked in his waistband.
Both robbers then left in a late-model silver vehicle, believed to be a Toyota Avalon, with an unknown Georgia tag number, police said Thursday.
One suspect was described as a black man with a medium complexion, 21 to 25 years old, and between 5-foot-4 and 5-6, witnesses told police. He had a slim build and a goatee and was wearing a dark-colored hat, a brown-olive jacket with stripes on the right sleeve and matching pants, a white T-shirt, and black Converse Chuck Taylor’s. He was armed with a black pistol.
The second suspect was a black man with a light complexion, between 20 and 25 years old, and between 5-foot-6 and 5-8, according to police. He had a slim build and was wearing a dark-colored knit hat, a black leather jacket, jeans and white athletic shoes. He also had a pistol.
Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to contact Atlanta police.
Augustine’s employees declined to speak about the incident when contacted by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The bar operates out of the same building where a beloved bartender was shot and killed, Standard Food and Spirits. It was there that popular bartender John Henderson was killed during a January 2009 robbery.
The only suspect to be convicted in connection with Henderson’s death, Jonathan Redding, was convicted in March 2011 and sentenced to life plus 20 years.
