A tire flew off a vehicle and struck and killed a woman Wednesday afternoon in southwest Atlanta, according to police.
The woman, whose name was not released, was hit around 2:30 while she walking along Metropolitan Parkway, Sgt. Greg Lyon with Atlanta police said.
A Chevrolet Suburban was traveling southbound on Metropolitan Parkway when the right front tire came off the vehicle. The tire went into the right lane, hit a curb and went into the air before striking the woman on the upper part of her back. Investigators don’t believe the woman saw the tire before she was hit.
She was taken in critical condition to Grady Hospital, where she later died.
No criminal charges are expected as a result of the incident, Lyon said.
