There is a “strong possibility” the human remains authorities found in east Floyd County Friday are those of Ashley Jones, a 24-year-old woman who was reported missing in early February, county police said.

“The location of the discovery Friday is within walking distance of the area where Jones was last seen alive,” Floyd police said in a prepared statement issued Saturday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab will examine the remains, Floyd police said. The GBI referred questions back to Floyd police.

Jones’ mother, Cyndi, posted about the discovery on Facebook Friday, saying she was “devastated.”

“My beautiful daughter was found today,” she said in her post. “I am heartbroken to say that she is no longer with us. I cannot express to you the heartache and pain I feel.”
