Gwinnett County Fire investigators say a late-afternoon house fire in Lawrenceville on Monday was an act of arson.

The fire was reported by a neighbor at 2:16 p.m., after the neighbor saw smoke pouring from the house on the 160 block of East Village Way, fire officials said in a release Wednesday.

When they arrived, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the home — a single-story ,wood frame house on a slab.

They were able to bring the fire under control quickly, but not before the flames caused extensive damage to the interior.

Investigators found evidence of fires set in multiple rooms of the house, according to the release. Specific information about the evidence has not been released.

The family, four adults and two children, were not home when firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.

The family was displaced due to the damage, and the American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Gwinnett Fire Investigations at 678-518-4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hot Line at 1-800-282-5804.

The Georgia Arson Control Hot Line offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for arson.
