Elderly Georgia woman dies after falling under her own, moving car

An elderly Georgia woman was run over and killed by her own vehicle Monday afternoon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident, which left Joan Bennett, 84, dead, according to Macon Fox news station WGXA-24.

The crash happened about 4:35 p.m. Monday at Bennett’s home on Embassy Court in Macon.

Witnesses told sheriff’s deputies that Bennett pulled into her driveway, then fell down while exiting her vehicle, which rolled backward over her. The witnesses also said the vehicle was running in a moving gear when the incident happened.

She was later transported to Coliseum Northside Hospital, where she was pronounced dead from the injuries she sustained.

Anyone with information about this accident is asked to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 and ask to speak with a fatality investigator.
