East Point security guard’s shooting death deemed suicide

May 27, 2015

Authorities have determined the shooting death of an East Point security guard was a suicide.

East Point police originally said they were treating the death of 32-year-old Antonio Spear as a homicide. Spear’s body was found Sunday in an SUV wedged near a building on Willingham Drive.

Capt. Cliff Chandler said Wednesday that an autopsy suggested that Spear shot himself in the head.

Spear worked as a security guard at Tri-Cities Plaza, a shopping center about 200 yards from where he and his vehicle were ultimately found. Authorities believe he likely had the car in drive when he shot himself, Chandler said.

A weapon was recovered in the vehicle.
