A 17-year-old was killed and his three passengers were injured after a crash involving a stolen SUV on Ga. 400 early Tuesday morning, officials said.
Sandy Springs police spotted the stolen vehicle in the northbound lanes just before 2 a.m and attempted to stop it, Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Lt. Stephanie Stallings said.
According to police, the crash occurred when the driver made an “erratic lane change” and lost control while trying to take the Northridge Road exit at a high rate of speed. The SUV left the exit ramp and hit a large tree before coming to a stop, according to a GSP incident report.

The driver, later identified as 17-year-old Alexander Castillo of Doraville, was killed in the crash. He did not have a driver’s license, authorities said.
His passengers — two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old — were taken to Wellstar North Fulton Hospital and are expected to survive. One of the teens underwent surgery Tuesday morning and the other two were taken into custody, Stallings said. It’s unclear what charges they face.
According to Sandy Springs police, the 2020 Chevrolet Captiva that Castillo was driving was stolen in DeKalb County several hours before the chase and fatal wreck.
The crash investigation closed the Northridge Road exit and entrance ramps for hours, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Both ramps reopened just after 7:20 a.m., police said.
