An 85-year-old woman died following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon, and the driver of the second car involved was arrested, Cobb County police said.

Kathryn J. LaPointe of Marietta was turning onto Terrell Mill Road from the Walmart in the 1700 block of Cobb Parkway when her white, 2006 Ford Taurus was struck on the driver’s side, Sgt. Dana Pierce said in an emailed statement late Tuesday.

Investigators believe Cynthia D. Max, 45, of Powder Springs, was traveling southbound on Terrell Mill Road in a silver Hyundai Tucson at the time of the crash, Pierce said.

“As the Ford pulled out, it was struck on the driver’s side by the Hyundai,” Pierce said.

LaPointe was transported by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, but died from her injuries, according to police.

Max sustained minor injuries, but declined treatment, Pierce said. She was arrested at the scene of the wreck and charged with driving under the influence, a misdemeanor, Cobb jail records show. Max was booked into the jail early Wednesday and released about an hour later on $1,000 bond.

The wreck remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Cobb police at 770-499-3987.
