DeKalb County police Monday were investigating a fatal overnight shooting at a home near Lithonia.

Officers called to the home on Wellborn Creek Drive found a man shot to death inside the garage.

“According to detectives, it appears the victim was invited to the location by the homeowner to socialize and play cards,” DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “The suspect was also invited over.”

At some point during the evening, the victim and suspect got into an argument “that escalated into the suspect pulling out a weapon and shooting the victim,” Parish said.

She said detectives were working Monday to identify the suspect and determine how many people were inside the home during the incident.

The victim’s name was being withheld until relatives could be notified, Parish said.
