A fire that investigators believe was sparked by cardboard left too close to an oven displaced 32 people Monday afternoon in Gwinnett County.

Firefighters were called around 3 p.m. to The Falls complex off Satellite Boulevard, near Duluth, and arrived to find heavy smoke and fire, according to Lt. Colin Rhoden with the Gwinnett fire department. It took less than an hour for firefighters to get the blaze under control, he said.

No one was injured in the fire, Rhoden said. But 24 adults and eight children from eight apartments were displaced by the fire. The Red Cross was assisting residents with shelter for the night, Rhoden said.

Investigators later determined that the blaze was accidental.
