Brookhaven residents will vote Tuesday on whether to grant their city redevelopment powers, one of several local questions on DeKalb ballots.

The redevelopment powers initiative would give city officials the authority to create tax allocation districts to help spur development, possibly along Buford Highway.

In a tax allocation districts, known as TADs, cities may sell bonds to finance development, with the anticipated rise in property values paying off the bonds.

Other municipal questions on Tuesday’s ballot include:

  • Proposed annexations in Clarkston and Doraville.
  • Three tax exemptions for manufacturers in Doraville.
  • A tax exemption for manufacturers in Stone Mountain producing goods that are destined for shipment outside of the state of Georgia.
