The eastbound lanes of I-20 in DeKalb County have reopened, more than four hours after a tractor-trailer crashed into the median wall and overturned in the middle of the interstate.

The crash happened shortly before 6 a.m. on I-20 eastbound past Flat Shoals Road in DeKalb County.

According to DeKalb police on the scene, a car in the fourth lane from the wall sideswiped a truck in the third lane, forcing the truck into the wall.

The truck’s driver was not injured, and the car’s driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The car’s driver will be charged with failure to maintain lane, police said.

The truck, hauling 28,000 pounds of dry foods, damaged a 30-foot section of the median wall, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Three of five westbound lanes were blocked as firefighters doused a fire that broke out along the median wall, apparently from fuel that leaked from the wrecked truck. Those westbound lanes were reopened shortly before 9 a.m., but all eastbound lanes remained closed until just after 10 a.m. as crews worked to remove the wreckage.
