Some DeKalb County senior citizens will don their gowns and tuxes for dinner and dancing on Saturday and they’ll learn about crime prevention.

Seniors are being invited to the 2013 Senior Ball which will be held at 5 p.m. at the Hyatt Atlanta, 265 Peachtree Street.

DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James and Commissioner Lee May will host the ball aimed at teaching seniors to minimize risks of being victimized.

“This event mixes music with a message during the Senior Ball,” May said in a press release. “Our seniors will leave this event educated, enlightened and entertained.”

The ball will begin with a resource and information fair. The night will end with an interactive safety program and dinner reception.

“Crimes against seniors have become a major issue in our area and across the nation,” James said. “With DeKalb having one of the fastest growing senior populations in the state and with an aging baby boomer population nationwide, we have to find ways to connect with our seniors and educate them on crimes targeted at the elderly.”

Seniors ages 60 and older are invited to attend this free, black-tie event, but space is limited, according to the release. To RSVP, call 404-687-7179 or email seniorball@dekalbcountyga.gov.
