One inmate was killed and two others were injured after a riot at a Mississippi jail.

The fight happened at the Mississippi Department of Corrections Regional Correction Facility in Chickasaw County, according to WMC.

Gregory Emary, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other inmates were taken to local hospitals, according to Chickasaw County Sheriff Jim Meyers.

Another inmate was killed and several others injured during another fight at a Mississippi jail, this one at the state penitentiary in Parchman.

Prisons across the Magnolia State were already on lockdown following an unspecified disturbance at the South Mississippi Correctional Institution in Leakesville, according to the state Department of Corrections.

Terrandance Dobbins, 40, was killed during the New Year's Eve fight at the south Mississippi jail, according to the Clarion-Ledger.

“Movement remains restricted statewide in the prison system following a major disturbance late Tuesday night at the Mississippi State Penitentiary, where an inmate was killed and several others were injured,” the department said in a statement. “Conditions at MSP are under control. All state prisons, private prisons, and regional facilities are included in the lockdown for the sake of the safety of the public, staff, and inmates. Additional information is unavailable because of the active investigation and in the interest of public safety.”
