Dawson County Sheriff Billy Carlisle has spent his entire career helping keep his community safe. Now, it’s the community coming to the aid of the sheriff and his family, who lost their home to a fire.

No one was injured in the Saturday night blaze at Carlisle’s home, Capt. Tony Wooten with the sheriff’s office said Monday. One of the sheriff’s four children was home at the time and was able to escape unharmed, Wooten said.

But the home is believed to be a total loss, though the family was able to retrieve some items from the debris.

Monday afternoon, the sheriff’s office posted a Facebook message for those wishing to help the Carlisle family.

“We ask that you keep Sheriff and his family in your prayers,” the message said.

Those wishing to assist the family can donate money at any SunTrust bank to an account in the name of Billy and Cathy Carlisle.

The fire is believed to have started in the laundry room, dawsonnews.com reported.
