DeKalb County authorities shut down multiple lanes of I-285 in Tucker for three hours Wednesday morning after a man was shot on the interstate.

The victim was found in the southbound lanes near Northlake Parkway about 3 a.m. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to DeKalb police.

“What led up to the shooting remains under investigation and no one has been arrested,” a police spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Two left lanes were blocked at the Northlake Parkway at 3:30 a.m. and did not reopen until about 6:30 a.m., the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported. Investigators were focusing on a black SUV and red sedan with rear-end damage at the shooting scene.

Even after the investigation wrapped up, gridlock conditions continued for hours because of a crash a few exits south. Multiple right lanes were blocked when a tractor-trailer overturned before Memorial Drive, the Traffic Center reported.

The inner loop was “pretty much a mess” through DeKalb for most of the morning drive, Heather Catlin said.
