A teenager was fatally shot and another was injured Saturday in Hall County, police said.

Aristeo Ramirez, 17, was found dead in a crashed vehicle on Hillcrest Avenue around 8 p.m., according to Gainesville police. The residential area is just north of Gainesville Square and not far from Longwood Park.

“It is believed that Ramirez was shot then crashed the vehicle,” officials said.

A 16-year-old, who police said fled the area before their arrival, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the foot.

The two teens knew each other and drove together to the incident location, police spokesman Lt. Kevin Holbrook said.

Authorities stated that the investigation suggests the incident was “not a random crime.” Holbrook added that officials feel ”confident that the victim and the shooter(s) were meeting at this location or area.”

In a GoFundMe created to raise money for Ramirez‘s funeral, he was described as a cherished son, brother and friend.

“His kindness, laughter and love for his family touched the hearts of everyone around him,” wrote Arlette Ramirez, who organized the online campaign.

A visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Gainesville, according to his obituary.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 911 or submit a tip online.
