A man was arrested Wednesday, days after a fatal stabbing in DeKalb County, police said.

Officers were called to the 4800 block of Lawrenceville Highway, near Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Tucker, shortly after 7 p.m. on Jan. 31 regarding a person assaulted. At the scene, they found a man lying on the sidewalk.

The victim was pronounced dead and was discovered with at least one stab wound, officials said. He was identified as Haran Toppin, 24, by the DeKalb Medical Examiner’s Office.

The suspect, 37-year-old Sherod Veal, was arrested and booked into the DeKalb jail Wednesday. He is facing a charge of murder.

Detectives are working to determine what led to the incident.
