A loss prevention officer was stabbed Thursday at a Lindbergh-area Kroger while trying to stop a shoplifter, police said.

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. at the store at 2452 Morosgo Way in northeast Atlanta. Police said the 33-year-old security officer confronted Seanathon Wallace, who is accused of shoplifting.

“During the encounter, security officers attempted to detain Mr. Wallace, and he subsequently stabbed the victim,” police said in a news release.

The loss prevention officer was alert when taken to a hospital.

Atlanta police responded to the location and took Wallace, 36, into custody. He is facing charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and drug-related offenses.

In a brief statement, a Kroger spokesperson said, “Safety and security at our stores are our top priority.”
