After DeKalb County firefighters spread the word they were searching for the owner of a dog they had to rescue from a storm drain Thursday morning, they were able to share some good news.

“Owner has been found and reunited with the dog,” they posted on Facebook. “Thank you for everyone’s help.”

The dog crawled into a pipe about 50 feet long, got stuck and became too exhausted to continue, officials said. Since the pipe was too small for anyone to gain entry, crews used a combination of pike poles, snares, ropes and other tools to get the dog out safely.

A collar was retrieved from the animal, but the owner wasn’t immediately found.

“If this dog looks familiar, please reach out to DeKalb County Animal Shelter,” firefighters urged in a Facebook post that day.
