A Brookhaven police officer fired his weapon during a confrontation with a suspect Monday evening, but no one was injured during the incident, officials said.
Officers were called to the Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Perimeter Center just before 4:45 p.m. in response to a disorderly person, Brookhaven police spokesman Lt. Jacob Kissell said. The suspect reportedly threatened employees inside the hotel, saying he would “shoot them in the head” after being asked to leave, Kissell said.
An officer identified the man walking down the road as he responded to the scene and pulled over on Ashford Dunwoody Road at Oconee Pass to investigate, according to Kissell. As the officer questioned the man, the suspect began “actively resisting,” Kissell said. As the confrontation continued, the officer fired his gun, according to Kissell.
Police said the GBI is not investigating the incident.
Residents were advised to avoid the area, which is located near Montgomery Elementary School and Murphey Candler Park, just south of I-285.
