A Newnan youth baseball coach was arrested this week, accused of sending sexually explicit messages to a juvenile over social media.

Coweta County sheriff’s Col. Jimmy Yarbrough said 26-year-old Jonathan Hayes Sholar used apps such as Instagram and Snapchat to send the explicit messages to a 14-year-old girl, whose brother was a student at the Centerfield Baseball Academy co-owned by Sholar.

The alleged victim told her brother about the messages in June, and he told his parents, who contacted authorities.

Investigators seized Sholar’s phone and laptop and found evidence that backed up the girl’s story, according to Yarbrough.

Sholar was arrested Wednesday and charged with child molestation and child sexual exploitation.
