A Woodstock man has been charged in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s 24-day-old daughter, authorities said.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jay Baker said Nicholas Campbell, 26, was arrested Friday on charges including possession of methamphetamine and four counts apiece of first-degree cruelty to children, aggravated assault and aggravated battery. He is being held without bond.

Baker said deputies responded to a home off Magnolia Springs Drive late Thursday after receiving a “child not breathing” call. The infant, Ciara Campbell, was taken to Northside Hospital-Cherokee before being transferred to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where she was taken off life support Sunday.

“Multiple injuries” were discovered on the child, Baker said, but specifics were not provided. Baker said Campbell was arrested after he, the child’s mother and the child’s grandmother were interviewed.

An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted Tuesday and the case remains under investigation. Methamphetamine is not believed to have played a role in the girl’s death, Baker said.
