Katie Wenszell, 28, was flown Monday from an Atlanta hospital to a Milwaukee hospital, where she will continue her recovery.

The woman who jumped from a MARTA train platform to save her mother’s life has returned to Milwaukee, where she will continue to recover.

On Monday, Paratech Ambulance Service transported Katie Wenszell from Atlanta to Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls, Wis., the ambulance company posted on its Facebook page.

“As a family-owned service, this complimentary transport falls in line with our company philosophy to treat all patients like family — with care, dignity and professional skill,” Paratech posted online. “Katie’s brother, Dan, works for Paratech as a Critical Care Paramedic, so this is truly family helping family in their time of need.”

Wenszell, her mother and four sisters were visiting Atlanta for a long weekend of sightseeing and shopping and were at the Midtown station Aug. 19. That’s when a stranger allegedly pushed Sue Wenszell into the path of a train, according to witnesses. Katie, 28, immediately jumped to help her mother.

Katie pushed her mother and herself between the train tracks, and her heroics likely saved her mother’s life, her father said days after the incident. But while Sue sustained a concussion and broken bones in her elbow and wrist, Katie’s injuries were much more serious and left her in critical condition.

“Katie took the brunt of it all,” her father told WSB Radio. “She was not only struck, but also dragged.”

Investigators arrested the man accused pushing Sue Wenszell. Christopher Patrick Brooklin, 28, was charged with aggravated assault and battery. He remained Tuesday night in the Fulton County, where he was being held without bond.

The story made national headlines, and Jerry Wenszell told WSB Radio his daughter saved her mother’s life, though it nearly cost Katie her own.

Katie’s sisters believe the backpack she was wearing got caught on the train and it dragged her, crushing her right foot, severing two toes and knocking her unconscious.

At the hospital, doctors found she had swelling on her brain, a punctured lung and shattered bones in her shoulder. At least eight bones in her face were also shattered or fractured, her father said.

She was previously in a medically-induced coma until she recovered enough to be transported, her family said.
