A Marietta woman was struck by an SUV and killed Wednesday while crossing a busy Cobb County road, police said.

The fatal Christmas Day wreck occurred about 6:45 p.m. near the intersection of South Cobb Drive and Booth Road, Cobb police spokeswoman Officer Sydney Melton said.

According to police, a man was driving his black Chevrolet Suburban south on South Cobb Drive when the pedestrian stepped in front of him and got hit. The woman, identified as 49-year-old Jennifer Denise Evans, was pronounced dead at WellStar Kennestone Hospital.

No charges have been filed, but the fatal collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Cobb police at 770-499-3987.
