TODAY'S UPDATE [1:01 p.m.]: Police have charged Amy Ervin, 38, of Peachtree City, in connection with the case, spokesman Sam Worsham said. Ervin is in the Gwinnett County jail on unrelated charges.

ORIGINAL STORY: Sandy Springs police are seeking to identify the person who allegedly withdrew $4,800 from the bank account of an animal shelter and pet rescue organization.

The executive director of PAWS Atlanta, Nancy Longacre, told police that an unauthorized person withdrew the funds March 24 from the organization’s account at SunTrust Bank on Northside Drive, Sgt. Sam Worsham said.

Longacre said bank officials told her that a fake withdrawal ticket was filled out and a Georgia driver’s license and date of birth was used, according to the police report.

Those numbers did not match those of Longacre, who is authorized to sign on the group’s account, according to the report. It’s not known if Longacre’s name was on the identification used at the time of the unauthorized withdrawal.

Worsham said police still are investigating the case.

PAWS Atlanta is based in Decatur, according to its website.
