A woman is dead after a stabbing at a child’s birthday party, according to police.

The incident happened at Dalia’s Events about 8 p.m. Saturday, Roswell police spokeswoman Sgt. Britney Rodgers said. The facility is in the Old Lake Place shopping center on Alpharetta Highway.

“According to information gathered by investigators, the suspect, Pedro Navarro-Zelaya, approached the victim during a child’s birthday party,” she said. “Navarro-Zelaya stabbed the victim multiple times, then stabbed himself in the chest.”

Margarita Cabrera-Maldonado, 42, of Roswell, was taken to WellStar North Fulton Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Navarro-Zelaya, 44, of Roswell, was also injured and taken to the hospital, where he remains in police custody. He is expected to recover from his injuries, Rodgers said.

“According to investigators, Cabrera-Maldonado and Navarro-Zelaya were in a relationship that ended approximately one year ago,” she said.
