The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office has not been able to identify a woman whose body was found near I-85 covered only with the shirt she was wearing Wednesday afternoon.

The woman's body was found Wednesday in a ditch on the northbound side of I-85 at Willingham Bridge in Hapeville, police said.

Police believe the woman, in her 40s, had been at the site for less than two days, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Matthew Harris, a contractor working in the area, told Channel 2 he was cleaning a parking lot alongside I-85 Wednesday afternoon when he saw clothing on the fence and a purse sitting on top of a bin.

Harris said he was “just kind of curious as to why there were things there,” so he started walking along the fence line where the trees were.

Harris found the body and first thought it was a mannequin, he said.

“I mean I find all kinds of stuff along these roads and properties,” Harris said.

Authorities are investigating the death and what they called “suspicious circumstances” surrounding it.
