A 59-year-old woman died after a chain-reaction crash in North Georgia on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The incident began about 7:20 a.m. as Carolyn Jackson of Rockmart drove her Hyundai Sonata on U.S. 27 in Polk County, the Georgia State Patrol said. She made a left turn onto U.S. 278, while allegedly failing to yield.

This led a tractor-trailer to hit the right side of her vehicle, causing the big rig to jackknife and the Sonata to cross the median into oncoming traffic, GSP said in a news release. A Mack truck then struck the Sonata, sending it back across the median and into a guardrail.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene by the county’s coroner, the release said. No one else was injured during the incident.

The investigation into the wreck is ongoing.
