A northwest Atlanta man was stabbed to death and police say the suspect in the case lived in the same rooming house as the victim.

Just before 11 p.m. Monday, police responded to a person stabbed call in the 500 block of Simmons Street, Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said Tuesday.

A preliminary investigation determined Deborah Welch and the victim, identified by police as 50-year-old Delroy Hemphill, were fighting when she stabbed him in the back of the head, Jones said. Police did not say what prompted the fight.

Welch was taken to the Fulton County Jail, where she was being held Tuesday on a charge of murder.
