Police are trying to figure out what happened to a woman who was found dead in a northwest Atlanta parking lot with trauma to the head.

Officers responded to the 2000 block of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway just before 9 a.m. Thursday on a person down call, according to police spokeswoman Officer Stephanie Brown.

“When officers arrived on scene, they located a 31-year-old deceased female in the parking lot,” she said.

Atlanta homicide and crime scene investigators were called to the scene.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, the death will be investigated as a homicide,” Brown said.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office identified the woman as Shannon Welch.

Officials are waiting on the results of an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
