A woman sits in the Fulton County Jail after Atlanta police said she tampered with evidence in a hit-and-run case.

Valerie Tiller is accused of repairing a car in a May 8 hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Lynhurst Drive.

Police said Tiller helped Gary Jackson, her boyfriend, conceal the car. But Tiller’s statements didn’t match the evidence.

Jackson is accused of hitting Latasha Barnett, 39 of Powder Springs in the accident. He turned himself in and was in jail Friday on charges of vehicular homicide, felony hit and run, tampering with evidence and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, police said.

Barnett was crossing the intersection when she was hit by Jackson’s car, police said. Jackson left the scene of the accident.

His car was later located along Hollywood Drive from a Crime Stoppers tip.
