A fugitive from Florida was arrested last week in Canton after police learned that a 70-year-old woman was hiding him inside her house, authorities said.
Sherrod Wright, 35, of Alpharetta, was found in the attic of Janette St. Julien’s home off Cessna Drive, Canton police said in a news release. Wright had 10 outstanding warrants stemming from various fraud-related crimes in Florida.
The incident began last Wednesday when there was a car wreck on private property near St. Julien’s house, the release said. Wright was one of the people involved in the incident.
He went inside the woman’s house to get his driver’s license but did not return, police said.
A relative walked out of the house and brought Wright’s ID card to authorities, which led to them finding out about Wright’s active warrants in the Palm Beach, Fla., area, according to the release. Canton police tried to get Wright to leave the house, but he refused to come out.
Police obtained a search warrant to enter the house, leading officers to find Wright hiding inside the attic, the release said. St. Julien was also arrested and accused of knowing about Wright’s warrants.
Both were taken to the Cherokee County jail, police said. Wright awaits extradition to Florida to face his charges, while St. Julien faces counts of harboring a fugitive and obstruction.
