Witness sees man near deadly shooting victim in DeKalb road

A 38-year-old man was found shot to death late Wednesday in DeKalb County.

DeKalb County police are investigating after a man was found shot to death late Wednesday in the middle of a road in the Stone Mountain area.

When an officer responded shortly before midnight to the 4700 block of Mercer Road, a body was found unresponsive  near the passenger side of a Honda Odyssey, according to the incident report. The vehicle was stopped in the middle of the road.

The victim, identified as Mark Moss, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene. He had two gunshot wounds to his chest area.

A witness told police he heard “four to five gunshots” about 11:45 p.m.

When the witness looked outside, he saw a man wearing a gray jumpsuit and carrying a white plastic bag, police said. The man was walking away from the van and toward apartments in the 1400 block of South Hairston Road.

No other details were released.
