Authorities are searching for two masked men who are burning ATMs across metro Atlanta in an effort to break into them.
So far, the men have not successfully broken into the ATMs, according to Channel 2 Action News. However, that has not stopped them from trying, authorities said.
Reports of burning ATMs have come in from Cobb, Fayette, Henry and Rockdale counties since March, the news station reported. Surveillance cameras have caught the duo in the act.
The men hit two banks Saturday before taking off in a dark sedan without money from the machines, authorities said. The latest incident occurred early Monday at the Wells Fargo in the 600 block of North Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville.
Authorities are asking the public to stay vigilant and for anyone who saw the fires to come forward.
“A large trail of gasoline running across a parking lot, it's something that stands out,” Fayetteville police Capt. Chad Myers told Channel 2.
Although no injuries have been reported in the fires, the concern is that playing with fire could get someone killed.
“You could have blown the whole building up,” Myers said. “Luckily, it was just the ATM.”
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
