A repeat criminal in Gwinnett County, who recently escaped from a correctional facility, has been devoted to breaking the law for more than a decade.
However, police said he should’ve devoted more time to something else: his acting chops.
Darryl Gang, 36, was confronted by police after his vehicle was double parked at a QuikTrip gas station. That’s when he tried and failed to look like he was having a seizure to avoid being arrested, according to a Duluth police incident report.
Two main things gave it away to police: He tried to break his fall with his hand and kept looking up to see if the officers were paying attention.
“Seeing the K-9 officer show up and more officers show up, we believe that's when (Gang) kind of tried to get out of being arrested,” Duluth police Officer Ted Sadowski told Channel 2 Action News.
The incident took place about midnight Feb. 8 after officers spotted a sedan that was parked in between two spots, according to dash camera video obtained by the news station. Officers wanted to make sure everyone in the vehicle was OK, since a window had been broken and bullet holes could be seen in the car.
Officers spoke to the woman in the driver’s seat before their attention turned to Gang. They quickly realized he was not who he claimed to be, police said. He’s accused of giving them a fake name, which is when police prepared to put him in handcuffs.
That’s when Gang tried to give an Oscar-worthy performance. He flopped to the ground a little too gracefully while shaking his body to imitate convulsions, the video shows.
At first, officers bought the act, but it didn’t take them long to realize Gang was not winning a statue — or a Get Out of Jail Free card — that night.
While in an ambulance, Gang stopped pretending and candidly admitted to faking it, according to body cam video.
“Nobody wants to go to jail, sir,” he told a paramedic.
Gang had escaped from the Gwinnett correctional facility just a few days before this incident landed him back behind bars, Channel 2 reported.
The Gwinnett jail is a place he should know well, since he’s been arrested on more than 100 charges since 2001, according to online jail records. In addition, he’s served five stints in prison since 2004, according to Georgia Department of Corrections records.

His prison time stems from convictions for drug possession and theft by shoplifting among other charges in Gwinnett, GDC records show.
Inside the vehicle, officers found syringes and methamphetamine, which netted Gang even more charges, police said. The woman who was in the driver’s seat, identified as 23-year-old Nora Berger, was also arrested.

Both suspects face counts of possession of meth, possession of drug-related objects and use of drug-related objects, according to jail records.
