Multiple panes of bullet-resistant glass helped save an Atlanta store clerk’s life when two armed robbers began shooting at him, authorities said.
Atlanta police said the two men, who covered their faces with T-shirts, walked into the Big Brother Meat and Grocery store on Lee Street in southwest Atlanta and demanded cash around midnight Thursday. When the store clerk refused, the suspects started shooting.
The glass around the cashier counter is bullet resistant, and the cashier, who had his own firearm, was protected once he closed the window. One suspect attempted to pull open the window door, but it was locked, Atlanta police officer Stephanie Brown said.
Channel 2 Action News reported that more than a dozen rounds were fired, which mostly ended up deflected or captured by the glass.
Police are still searching for the suspects.
A daytime store clerk told Channel 2 that his boss was robbed a few months ago at the same location.
