Newly released dashcam footage shows witnesses and Atlanta police officers — including a former NFL player — working together to lift a car off of an injured man following a recent drive-by shooting.
The video obtained by Channel 2 Action News shows several people lifting the car before the victim, who was not shot during the incident but was in critical condition, is pulled out from under it.
Among the police officers at the scene was former New England Patriots defensive lineman Marcus Forston.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. Wednesday at a gas station on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard. Two men were wounded and the shooter or shooters escaped.
Atlanta police believe the victim trapped under the car was there because he was seeking cover.
“As soon as the shots rang out,” Officer Walter Clark told Channel 2, “they got out of the car and they just hit the ground. But the car was left in drive.”
A possible motivation for the shooting was unclear. Police believe those responsible for the shooting may have been targeting a different group than the one involving the victims, Channel 2 reported.
