A Villa Rica man was convicted Monday of strangling a 55-year-old woman, stealing her car and leaving her body along the side of a Douglas County road, authorities said.

Eric Jackson Greene, 42, was found guilty on counts of malice murder, felony murder and theft by taking, Douglas County Assistant District Attorney Steve Knittel told AJC.com. His trial lasted a week, and it took the jury less than two hours to come to that verdict.

On Jan. 25, 2019, Douglas County deputies received a call after someone discovered the body of Sheila Bryant just off West Union Hill Road near Ephesus Church Road, AJC.com previously reported.

Her autopsy, which was performed by the GBI, ruled the death a homicide and said strangulation was the cause. Investigators found that she was killed at another location and left on the side of the road.

Greene was arrested the following month after deputies found him driving the woman’s car in Paulding County. He was already considered a person of interest in the case.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
